The Ornate Lory is not often seen as a pet, but not a rare Lory. This examples pet potential is superb. Beautiful Lory - (not a lorikeet as the species tail is blunted, but not large and common Swainson Lorikeets are about 1.5 times the size.) Not even close to being obnoxiously loud which can happen with Lory's, and very well socialized. Craves attention / affection and is a hoot to watch roll around on his or her back ( believe it is male secondary to the bluish tint to the otherwise dark purple head feathers - not sexed). Not at all nippy and will follow me around the house. Recently another larger Lory was brought in and they do well together, but they are not bonded and do not live full time in the same cage. Presently will do an occasional Dixie cup feed to keep the bond tight, but otherwise weaned onto high quality nectar from a local breeder that will transition nicely to Blessings Nectar, fruits, and Zupreme Lory pellets. The pellets are a supplement and not the primary food as they truly do best on Nectar which can be fed as the dry powder. Some speculate that the hardness of food items can reduce the likelihood of yeast infections as they clean the beak and crop mechanically. This is not one of the messier lorikeets secondary to size. Ready to go any time. Also raised with a dog. Will go to anybody of course - hard to do a bad job socializing a lorikeet. The price is $650 plus shipping and crate if desired.

The Yellow Phase Dusky was the first I ever saw in person with 20 years under my belt as a hobbyist. Gorgeous, gorgeous bird. The nominate phase is the orange which is also gorgeous and looks like a bird built for Halloween. As this bird ages the yellow will intensify to a great degree and the beak and surrounding skin patch will turn a beautiful orange color. The eyes redden and they are just beautiful. This is a male. He is a gentle Lory, very much a "puppy" type bird in that he loves petted and held - he's a beauty to watch (DNA sexed male) play and has not begun loud vocalizations as of yet, but Dusky are known to be loud. He is a robust example and quite large. He is on the diet as the above. I saw him while visiting the breeder who was going to hold him back as the rarity is significant and the extensiveness of his yellow is awesome. I purposefully over-paid so I could have the opportunity to enjoy and work with him. He was hand fed by the breeder and finished by the breeder. He was easy to socialize and will make an amazing pet. Since he is larger he will be messier than the Ornate, but easily worth it. The droppings dilute more readily than seed eating birds
. He is offered at $950.00 which is $550 less than I paid for him. Such a rare, comical, and beautiful bird I couldn't pass up the chance to enjoy him.
